How to play Carrom

Use a short break to learn the rhythm of Carrom. Clear your nine carrom men after the queen is covered. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Identify the playing area and the controls you need. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Play a casual Carrom match using the house rules shown here. Tournament penalties and multi-board match scoring are not used.

Notice the feedback

Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Use the example to check your reasoning.

Your goal

Clear your nine carrom men after the queen is covered. The feedback beside the game helps you follow the round. Review the board or playing area as it changes.

Step by step

  1. White starts; set striker aim and power.
  2. Own-colour pockets earn another shot.
  3. Cover the queen with an own-colour man in the same or next shot.
  4. Striker fouls return one own pocketed man if available.
  5. Finish your colour after a covered queen.

Controls

Touch to aim; sliders set power and angle; striker-position controls and Shoot. Use the control method described here for this activity. Avoid pressing the same control repeatedly while a move is being processed.

A useful example

Queen and own man in one legal shot cover immediately. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Check the stated objective.

Watch out for this

The last own man returns if the queen remains uncovered. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules.
