How to play Klondike Solitaire

Take a moment with Klondike Solitaire before moving to another game. Build four suit foundations from ace to king. Look at what changes after your first action. Use the opening round to become familiar with the layout. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

One deck; draw-one or draw-three stock; waste recycling. Free solo play, no wagering.

Read before acting

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Use the example to check your reasoning.

Your goal

Build four suit foundations from ace to king. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Start with a deliberate move.

Step by step

  1. Build down in alternating colours; kings fill empty columns. Valid ordered runs move together.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

Controls

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Contact us with the game and device if a control does not respond.

A useful example

A red 6 fits a black 7, not another red 7. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Read the matching step again.

Watch out for this

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart.
