How to play Star Battle

Choose a round of Star Battle and settle into its rules. Place one star in each row, column and region, with no touching stars even diagonally. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Check the rule that explains your first action. Look at what changes after your first action.

Solve ten 6×6 puzzles with one star in every row, column and region. These boards use the one-star rule.

Try a deliberate move

After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again. Refer to the controls when needed.

Your goal

Place one star in each row, column and region, with no touching stars even diagonally. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Start with a deliberate move.

Step by step

  1. Tap to place a star, mark a cell or clear it.
  2. Respect fixed starter stars.
  3. Check rows, columns and coloured regions.
  4. Check puzzle verifies the final arrangement.

Controls

Click or tap squares or graph edges. Number boards include a digit pad. Undo reverses the previous change; Check puzzle validates the solution. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Read the example below alongside these instructions.

A useful example

A placed star rules out all eight neighbouring squares. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Choose a deliberate next step.

Watch out for this

Different rows do not make diagonal neighbours legal. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Choose one rule to keep in mind for this round. Apply it consistently rather than guessing what another version might allow.
